Homeless Shelter Ministry

Budapest, VII. kerület, Vörösmarty u. 17.
Tel.: 1/ 786-1946

Short history:Social work on the streets, distribution of sandwitches and limonade for the homeless.

In 1996 a small group of theology students began to reach out for the homeless in the streets of Budapest. They provided sandwiche, hot tea and shared the gospel message. Three years later a Foundation named Hajlék Misszió Alapítvány was set up in order to provide an institutional framework and become more efficient. The regular activities resulted in the establishment of the subsidized Daycare Shelter for the Homeless in 2006, which provided for 80-100 persons on a daily basis. Since January 1, 2007 Calvary Chapel Budapest has been in charge of the operation of the facility located in a basement in Vörösmarty utca, Budapest, which has 8 full-time staf and volunteers. It is open daily for 6 hours for the homeless.

Our objective is to provide homeless people a clean and civilized environment. We provide a daily meal, leisure activities (television, library, chess, table games), opportunity to wash their clothing, take a shower, and we help them manage their own affairs. We can give the needy clothing, razors, and other consumer goods. There are Bible studies and we provide pastoral care, too. Under the current legal framework we can provide for 128 persons.

We do not expect faith or religious deeds from the homeless, and we do not put any pressure on them to act like that. The fact that the services are provided by Christians should be evident from our daily conduct.

The hall, before lunch. The energy drinks were donated by the Hungarian Food Bank Association. We are a bi-lingual, Christian church and our simple desire is to know Jesus and to make Him known.

Our main church is located in the center of Budapest in the old Híradó Cinema. We now also have a site in District 11, and our vision is to see more church sites throughout Budapest; to be one body in multiple locations.

In Acts 2:42 we are told that the early church continued steadfastly in the apostle’s teaching, in fellowship, in breaking of bread and in prayer. This is a wonderful model for the church still.

Teaching: There are a myriad of Bible study times available to you here at Golgota and if you missed something you can listen to archived studies from the past several years.

Fellowship: This is so important to your growth as a Christian AND to you feeling at home in this church. Would you please pray about and consider joining a home fellowship near you? We are told by the Lord not to neglect gathering together. It’s a great way to make new friends who will be there to build you up in the Lord and to pray for you.

The Facade of Calvary Chapel Budapest.Breaking of Bread: Communion is such a great time to remember the Lord and what He has done for us. We take communion every other Sunday morning service. If you are a believer then you are welcome to partake. We do not have a membership in Golgota- thus communion is for all believers. If you are reading this and you are not a believer yet then let me exhort you to give your life to Jesus. He died for you- He paid for your sins so let Him work in your life!

Prayer: God answers prayer! We believe this and we encourage you towards private and corporate prayer. There are several prayer meetings in the church that you are welcome to join and if you are in need or prayer you can call the church office throughout the week or send us an email or sms with your prayer requests. We serve a powerful God who wants us to call on Him!

We believe that these 4 pillars are important to the overall health of a Christian and to a Church.

I am glad you have found us and if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask them through the This email address is being protected from spambots.
